Dear Friends,
 
Our greetings to all of you from Sky Farm Hermitage, which continues to be a place of many graces, not only for us but for all those who come here on retreat.
 
As some of you may know, during the summer we usually do an annual fundraising for the upkeep and maintenance of Sky Farm and its buildings. Because of the difficult economic situation in the country at this time we have been hesitant to write and decided to postpone our “begging letter” for a while. However, an unexpected donation of $5000 came from a friend of ours, Anne, to build a bathroom/kitchenette onto an existing hermitage, which we had converted from an old tool shed a few years ago. This hermitage is named St. Clare’s and has already been used by many guests, but it would be much more useful if it had a bathroom, cooking facilities, better electricity and insulation.  Anne donated this money in memory of her sister Claudia, a well-known chef and food writer in Los Angeles, who died last January at the age of 50. It is Anne’s request that the money be used for this improvement of St. Clare’s.
 
As providence would have it, our contractor George had a two month window of time when he could be available for this work, so we began the project a couple of weeks ago and it is coming along beautifully. George is transforming this old tool shed into what will probably become a favorite hermitage of our guests…along with St. Francis hermitage. However, to complete the project we do need to raise about another $5000 and so we have decided to send out this appeal as we approach the feast of St. Clare of Assisi on August 11th.
 
Sky Farm is doing very well in being self-supporting for its daily needs, but like most Monastic communities and Non-profit organizations there is often some need for help from friends and benefactors and this support is always appreciated. Our guests are continually thankful for their days of retreat here and it is a great joy for us to be able to share with others the beauty and silence of this sacred space and Hermitage.  We feel that the completion of St. Clare’s will be a well-appreciated addition to the hermitages that we are able to offer our many guests.
 
We want to thank each of you for all your loving support, generosity and prayer over the last five years and for helping to make all of this possible.
